KYC documentation

KYC: recognized documents

Which documents the module reads, and how you choose them.

Coverage

The module recognizes passports, national ID cards, driver's licenses and other official identity documents. Coverage: 10,000+ document types, 195+ countries and territories.

The system determines the type of a document and its issuing country from the image, so you do not specify them in advance. Which documents are accepted at a step is set in the scenario.

Choose countries and types in a scenario

In the document step of the scenario editor you choose the document type and the allowed countries. If a recognized document is not on the list of the step, the session returns [document] bad document type. See errors.

A scenario can have several document steps, for example the main spread of the passport first and a second page next. The results of all steps are collected in one session.

What is read

For each recognized document field the answer contains the field name, the value and a confidence level, and may flag problems with a field, such as one that could not be read. The machine readable zone is read and its checksums are validated. Printed and handwritten text is read, and signatures and stamps are checked.

Image requirements

  • Send JPEG or PNG images. Other formats are refused with [general] bad image.
  • The whole document must fit in the frame, and all important areas, such as the photo, stamps, numbers and the machine readable zone, must be fully visible.
  • Do not use the flash, which causes glare on lamination. Do not cover the document with your fingers.
  • Avoid heavy compression, blur and poor lighting. They reduce the quality of recognition and the face match.
